Infinity Property & Casualty Corp. could bring 500 new jobs to the city center after buying the former Birmingham Newsheadquarters.

According to Fox 6, the car insurance company plans to move 500 employees to the 120,000-square-foot building at 2201 Fourth Ave. N. The report cited Birmingham Mayor William Bell‘s office.

Infinity (NYSE: IPCC) officials were not immediately available when contacted by the Birmingham Business Journal to elaborate on their plans or the future of the company’s existing headquarters at the Colonnade, where the company leased more than 100,000 square feet in 2003.

The added employees would provide another boost to the city’s urban core. Infinity would be the latest in a string of companies to move some employees from the Over-the-Mountain suburbs to the city center in recent years. Infinity’s headquarters is in the Colonnade. Several companies have told the BBJ they are moving downtown to capitalize in the ongoing revitalization and because it’s an attractive location for young professionals.

Infinity has a total of 2,400 employees, but its SEC filings don’t indicate how many of those are in metro Birmingham.

Alabama Media Group, which moved its offices from the Birmingham News building to the Young & Vann Supply Building Co. last year, is selling the property to Infinity.
