Koch Foods plans to remain a major part of the Gadsden economy, following an announcement that it will expand its current facility and bring new jobs to the area.

The company in October said it would add 80 jobs, and on Tuesday revealed it will add 70 more in addition to the previously announced expansion, according to a report from the Gadsden Times. The company currently has 585 employees in Gadsden, counting the 80 jobs announced in October.

The city council on Tuesday gave the go-ahead on tax abatements for the company, who will invest $7.5 million in its chicken processing plant located in East Gadsden.

The report said the expansion will add $1.89 million to the company’s payroll.

As of October 2014, Koch Foods was America’s 163rd largest private company, according to Forbes.

Founded in 1973, Koch Foods employ 14,000 nationwide.
