Mercedes-Benz supplier Schmidt USA chooses Alabama for first U.S. plant

German-based manufacturer Schmidt Maschinenbau GmBH has chosen Auburn as the site for its first U.S. manufacturing facility.
According to Made in Alabama, the website for the Alabama Commerce Department, Schmidt USA will manufacture engine components including balance shafts and gear wheels for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Inc.
The facility will come with a $17 million investment and will employ around 50.
“We feel confident that the U.S. operation will allow us to provide even greater value to our customers,” said Herbert Schmidt, president of Schmidt Maschinenbau GmbH. “I am very grateful for the support that our company has received from the state of Alabama and the city of Auburn, making our decision for selecting our new home easy.”

Schmidt has been manufacturing precision auto parts for complex machine applications for over three decades.
