Publix Super Markets has signed a lease for a store at the Patchwork Farms development in Vestavia Hills, and should be breaking ground in the first week of February.

Miller Terry, who handles leasing for Blackwater Resources, confirmed that Publix signed on for a 45,600-square-foot store.

Publix media and community relations manager Brenda Reid said there is no confirmed opening date yet.

Terry said several other tenants are still in the works for the development, which including the Publix store has 81,600 square feet of retail space. Additionally, Terry said there will be four outparcel spaces at the site.

Patchwork Farms and the surrounding area continues to be the focus of much development, including multiple apartment complexes and office buildings along Cahaba River Road and Blue Lake Drive. The area is in close proximity to Grandview Medical Center, which opened in the fall of 2015.
